HOTEL ASIA PROJECT 2021: The Happiest Place on Earth

HOTEL ASIA PROJECT is pleased to announce The Happiest Place on Earth, an international exhibition program presented by Art Institute Kitakyushu. The show will open to the public on February 7 and remain on view through February 21 at Ruang Mes 56 in Yogyakarta, U trativodu in Prague and GALLERY SOAP in Kitakyushu.

We launched HOTEL ASIA PROJECT in 2011 as a platform for international collaborative art practices. As the kick-starter of the project, we held a two-day symposium and its affiliated exhibition in GALLERY SOAP, Kitakyushu, by gathering artists, researchers, curators, journalists, and architects from Japan and South Korea. Since then, while having collaborated with artists and researchers of mostly Asian countries and areas, we have organized many exhibitions, symposia, film screenings, and music events.

Especially since 2012, to display the diversity and commonality of all the perspectives of collaborators from different cultural, political, and social backgrounds, we have chosen and explored a recurrent theme: landscape. We have learned from our activities; what one sees in a landscape is not specific to the region but might be overlapped with what one sees in other ones; a practice of seeing has the potential to make a common ground among seemingly different landscapes.

In 2021, HOTEL ASIA PROJECT will start an exhibition and screening program under the title “The Happiest Place on Earth” including a postcard project collaborated with artists, curators, researchers and others around Asia and Europe. Please stop by and enjoy our presentation at each venue.
