Pameran We Go Where We Now

Galeri R.J. Katamsi ISI Yogyakarta sejak 4 tahun ini secara berkala menghadirkan pameran yang menilik wacana perkembangan seni rupa di Indonesia terutama gerakan komunitas seniman yang dinisiasi oleh mahasiswa seni. Seri pameran tersebut mengajak kita untuk membaca perjalanan sejarah seni rupa Indonesia dari aksi komunitas dan arsip dokumentasinya untuk membangun kesadaran kontekstual atas sejarah, estetika dan wacana yang turut menciptakan dinamika seni di Indonesia.

Tahun ini, Galeri R.J. Katamsi melempar estafetnya pada Ruang MES 56. Pameran bertajuk “We Go Where We Now” yang dikuratori oleh Dr. Irwandi, M.Sn., merupakan sebuah upaya untuk menunjukkan kolektivitas Ruang MES 56 secara komprehensif dan mendalam kepada masyarakat luas. Strategi yang dipilih adalah menampilkan MES 56 sebagai kolektif seniman dengan menampilkan seluruh karya kolektif yang pernah dikerjakan dan MES 56 sebagai artist-run-space yang akan mengaktivasi ruang galeri dengan mengadakan program-program reguler seperti lokakarya, penayangan film, diskusi, hingga pameran.

Pameran ini diharapkan dapat menunjukkan kerja kolektif yang berkesinambungan memungkinkan perkembangan yang progresif, namun di sisi lain juga memerlukan ‘perjuangan’. Berjuang menjadi manusia dan seniman, menghidupi dan memakmurkan ruang ekosistemnya.

Galeri R.J. Katamsi ISI Yogyakarta for the past 4 years has been periodically presenting exhibitions that look at the development of visual arts in Indonesia, particularly artist community movements initiated by students from the art school. These exhibition series are inviting us to read the trajectory of visual arts in Indonesia from the actions of communities and their documentation archives to raise contextual awareness of the history, aesthetics and discourse that continues to shape art dynamics in Indonesia.

This year, Galeri R.J. Katamsi passes down the estafette to Ruang MES 56. The exhibition “We Go Where We Now” curated by Dr. Irwandi, M.Sn. together with MES 56, represents an effort to point out a comprehensive presentation on the collectivity of Ruang MES 56 to the large public. The strategy chosen is to present MES 56 as a collective of artists by showcasing all the collective works that have been produced by the group as an artist-run-space. They will be activating the gallery space by organizing different regular programs such as workshops, film and video screenings, discussions, and exhibition.

This exhibition is intended to present a continuous and sustainable collective work for possibilities of progressive developments, yet which on the other side need ‘struggling’. Struggling to become human and artists, to support and advance the ecosystem space.
