Presentation: Adam de Boer

Adam de Boer (l. Riverside, California 1984) lulus S1 Jurusan Seni Lukis (2006) dari College of Creative Studies di University of California, Santa Barbara dan meraih gelar MA jurusan Seni Murni (2012) dari Chelsea College of Art and Design, London. 

de Boer telah memenangi beberapa penghargaan, antara lain DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities, Cultural Development Corporation, Santa Barbara Arts Fund, dan pada tahun 2011 mendapat beasiswa Arts for India Scholarship untuk menyelesaikan program masternya di Chelsea College of Art and Design. Pada musim gugur tahun 2012, dia bergabung dengan studio dan residensi pengajaran di International Institute of Fine Arts di Modinagar, India dan menghabiskan musim gugur 2013 di Bogotá, Colombia sebagai seniman residensi di Laagenicia. 

Musim panas tahun 2010 dan 2011, de Boer mengunjungi tanah kelahiran ayahnya di Purwokerto, Jawa Tengah, untuk menyelidiki keturunan Indo-nya. Karya terbarunya menggunakan gambaran dan kerajinan tradisional dari daerah ini sebagai cara untuk menghubungkan praktek artistiknya dengan budaya nenek moyangnya. Dalam residensinya kali ini dengan Ruang MES 56 dan Cemeti Art House, dia ingin mengembangkan proyek mengenai lukisan hibriditas Belanda-Indonesia. 



Adam de Boer (b. Riverside, California 1984) graduated with a BA in Painting (2006) from the College of Creative Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara and an MA in Fine Art (2012) from the Chelsea College of Art and Design, London. 

de Boer has won several awards, including DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities, the Cultural Development Corporation, the Santa Barbara Arts Fund, and in 2011 received the Arts for India Scholarship to support his post-graduate studies at the Chelsea College of Art and Design. In the fall of 2012 he participated in a studio and teaching residency at the International Institute of Fine Arts in Modinagar, India and spent the fall of 2013 in Bogotá, Colombia as a resident artist at Laagenicia. 

In the summers of 2010 and 2011 de Boer travelled to his father’s birthplace in Purwokerto, Central Java to begin investigating his Indo heritage. His recent work employs imagery and traditional crafts from the region as a way to connect his artistic practice with those of his distant cultural forebears. During his residency at Ruang MES 56 and Cemeti Art House he will further his project on painting Dutch-Indonesian hybridity.
